Erman Film, one of the oldest film production and distribution companies in Turkey, is founded in 1946 in İstanbul. Mr. Hurrem Erman, the founder, was a legendary producer in film business. The company have produced and distributed over 250 films during a fifty year period. This period was followed by a standstill, mostly due to the incoherence of the film market in Turkey in the 80s. Today, the two sons of Hurrem Erman, Fuat and Nail Erman are the owners of the company.
After the death of Hurrem Erman, the company went through a renovation period which helped it to enliven again. Erman Film started to import films which have characteristics of arthouse or which are between arthouse and box-office. Stabile production projects, which have a certain quality, and an ability to help themselves financially are always welcome, too.
During 2004-2005 seasons, Erman Film and Bir Film have released eight movies together. Erman Film has also released two movies in 2005-2006 and two movies in 2006-2007. Releases continued with Stuck, Vinyan and Palermo Shooting.
Erman Film is also the provider of one of the most important short film contests in Turkey: The Hurrem Erman Fund for Short Film Project Development. The aim of this fund is to provide financial support for students of cinema who have appraisable projects but no means to realize them. Each year, about 50 short film scripts are taken into consideration by a jury consisting of prominent names of the cultural scene of Turkey, and the winner is awarded by an amount of money, only to be used in the shooting of his/her script.
The Fund now is included in Sinepark Film Yarışması arranged by Galatasaray University, Faculty of Communications.
